Since Fall 2016, the key publication of Planners Network is the online Magazine, Progressive City: Radical Alternatives. The online Magazine seeks to be an important means for networking among members, a source of innovative ideas, and forum for controversial policy questions neglected in mainstream planning circles. The Magazine is still a work in progress. We have an all-volunteer Editorial Board and a few paid assistants, but shortly will need a greater paid staff to handle the growing responsibilities.
We have archived a number of other sources of news and editorials in our “News and Knowledge” section. To get access to e-newsletters filled with job opportunities, publication announcements, and more–along with back issues of Progressive Planning (2003-2016), you can become a member. See the Membership page for more details!
Announcements
Jobs, calls for papers, written statements on important issues, and other announcements are frequently posted to the website. These are archived in our Announcements section and are viewable by category.
Student Disorientation Guide
Along with articles that challenge current planning and educational paradigms, the PN Student Disorientation Guide also contains dozens of ideas for events and activities. Students and professors are encouraged to print out and distribute copies at orientation sessions and organizing meetings. This is a great resource not just for students, but anyone who wants to be “disoriented” into the world of Progressive Planning.
Progressive Planning: The Magazine of Planners Network
Beginning with the Winter 2002 issue, PN started publishing a 48-page quarterly magazine instead of the bi-monthly newsletter. In 2003 the magazine was renamed Progressive Planning: The Magazine of Planners Network. Access to back issues are available to paid members.
E-Newsletter and Newsletter Archives
We launched an E-Newsletter in 2005 to update paid members on more time-sensitive information. Access to archived e-newsletters are available to paid members.
PN began publishing a newsletter for its members in 1975. Eventually, the newsletter grew to include articles about a broad range of issues of concern to progressive planners. These newsletters are archived in our Newsletter Archives 1975-2001 section.
